One of the most interesting, wonderful, or sometimes terrifying things about being a parent is watching a miniature version of yourself grow before your very eyes. Something that never fails to excite me is watching them start to develop their own interests and become obsessed with learning a new skill or discovering a new activity.
I’m not sure if it’s because I always have a camera in my hand or because I just really enjoy pulling out all our old photos, but they both love taking photos and are surprisingly good at it – I mean, for a five-year-old and a two-year-old, at least. But with all the digital advances in photography in recent years, this often leads to hundreds of discarded photos that no one ever looks at again. And I’ve got the camera roll on my phone to prove it!
That’s why I love the Instax Mini 12 instant cameras from Very.co.uk. We took our cameras out for a spin to document a sunny day at our local botanical gardens. But rather than taking hundreds of photos, we were more intentional with the photos we took and had a lot of fun waiting to see how the photos developed! There were lots of laughs with the selfies. The little mirror on the front is really handy for getting everyone in the photo so they’re really easy to take!
Amber was a bit young to be taking the photos on her own, but with a little help she seemed to really enjoy the process. But Ollen really got to grips with the camera quickly. The shape of the camera stops your fingers from covering the lens and the button to take the photos is easy to find and press. She ran around the park looking for the perfect image and in the end took some really amazing photos of the flowers and plants. We gave her a limit to the photos she could take and this meant she really thought about what she wanted to document and how to do it. A far cry from the 80 random photos of a crack in the pavement she usually takes! The images are so bright and clear that we decided to frame them along with some of the family photos we took.
I wanted to make a really fun picture frame to hold our memories of the day. I decided to use an old frame and add bobbins to the outside using wood glue. I like to use wood glue instead of a glue gun because it takes longer to dry. This allows you to move the bobbins into place evenly around the frame before the glue dries. I then sprayed the frame with plastic primer and this really cute pink paint to match the bright colors of the camera that both kids loved.
The result, a sweet keepsake that both Amber and Ollen adore! I know we’ll be getting the camera out again soon and creating more memories with them. Check out all the cameras on offer at Very.co.uk to create your next memory-making day!
