We have some new gems to tell you…
This post is a little late, but I figured it was better late than never. Last November we went back to New York and had a blast. Not only did we enjoy the best weather I’ve ever had there (not a cloud in the sky and unusual heat that forced us to wear light jackets), but we had the chance to revisit some of our favorite places we hadn’t been to in years and discover some new gems as well. So it’s time to share them! If you’re not familiar with my New York guides, then it might be best to start with my Original Post (although it’s from 2017 so it’s a bit outdated now!), My revised 2020 post It’s more current, but the best way to explore all my recommendations is with This map It’s been viewed no less than 140,000 times! That’s crazy! It’s pretty handy, if I do say so myself, and contains colour-coded guides to hotels, lunches, dinners, cafes, shopping, nightlife, sightseeing and much more…
THE BEST OF THE TRIP:
Jet lag is deadly – especially when your little one has rescheduled you to start every day at 6:00 a.m. The latest we were able to sleep in was 5:00 a.m. on the last day! You can take advantage of this by taking advantage of the opportunity, booking breakfasts and dinners early and going to bed around 9:00 p.m. It’s not the most glamorous thing to do, especially in the city that never sleeps, but we actually weren’t too jet-lagged when we got home.
You no longer need a metro card to travel on the metro! Apple Pay is accepted – just swipe your payment when you start a journey. The metro is still the best way to get around, the cheapest and the fastest.
I think I’m convinced I’ll stay in Williamsburg.I love the vibe of the neighborhood and the restaurants are amazing. I never felt like we were missing out on anything by not living in Manhattan. It fits perfectly with the stage of life we are in now (although if I were going with my girlfriends, I would definitely want to be somewhere more central – it depends on what you’re looking for!).
Leave extra space in your suitcase – the shopping is simply excellent (and yes, I ended up paying for excess luggage on the way home!).
OUR FOUR-DAY ITINERARY:
I always think it’s helpful to include our itineraries here, just in case you’re looking for a good place to start and build your trip from there. Keep in mind that we are exhausted parents. HA! There is SO much more we could have included, but we ultimately wanted the trip to be a little slower than we usually do. Plus, we’ve been there a few times before, so we didn’t do any of the classic tourist things because we’re lucky enough to have done them already. My previous two posts about New York have itineraries that are more set up for that…
