There’s something truly special about this time of year. Sure, it’s hot and there are lots of bugs, but there’s also so much beauty! Summer is full of life and vibrancy, and it almost begs for inspiration for something wild and fun. And it turns out we have just the thing. This cherry branch made from cardstock and yarn balls, with its ripe red berries and bright green leaves, is the perfect answer to Mother Nature’s call.

Very cherry

While this cherry branch made from cardstock and yarn balls may look intricate, it is surprisingly accessible. This project is perfect for all craft enthusiasts and a fun way to cultivate some coloring and shading skills. Ultimately, it is the color details that make each cherry look ripe and attractive and are the real keys to the success of this project.

As you work, you’ll use brushes to blend and achieve that perfect gradient on the cherries, going from yellow to red, capturing the ripening process. Plus, the leaves come to life with subtle shading done with white and dark green colored pencils. After all, it’s all about finding joy in the process.

Believe it or not, cherry trees have been cultivated since ancient times. In fact, archaeologists have found cherry pits in ancient caves, indicating that our ancestors enjoyed this fruit thousands of years ago. In the West, cherry trees are often seen as a symbol of hope, new beginnings, and pure love. The Victorians even incorporated cherry blossoms into their bridal bouquets to represent everlasting love.

At Lia Griffith, we wanted to capture a touch of that history and magic with our Cardstock & Spun Ball Cherry Branch project. The final product is a stunning and elegant decoration that would look perfect as a summer centerpiece or in a pretty seasonal bouquet, just like the Victorian artisans before us.

Once you’re done, show your cherry blossom branch made from cardstock and yarn balls to the world! If you want to start with something a little smaller, you can share it with us. Simply upload your photos to our community of crafters or tag them with #MadeWithLia on social media. Happy creating!

This cherry branch is easier than it looks, a motivated beginner could easily make it while the more advanced crafter will find joy in the colorful details added to bring the cherries and leaves to life.
