Air Fryer Baked Potatoes Recipe

Learn how to make an air fryer baked potato with a crispy, flavorful skin and a fluffy interior! Enjoy with toppings like chives, sour cream, or butter.

Over the past year, this Air Fryer Baked Potatoes recipe has become my favorite way to cook baked potatoes. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my baked potato recipe, but most of the time, I only make one or two baked potatoes at a time. With such a small batch, using the air fryer just makes sense.

For starters, it’s MUCH faster. My air fryer preheats in seconds and produces perfectly cooked baked potatoes in about 40 minutes. That’s about 15 minutes less than a typical baked potato needs in my oven.

The potatoes are also delicious. Rubbed with olive oil and sea salt, they have an extra crispy, flavorful skin and a tender, fluffy interior.

If you have an air fryer, I hope you’ll give this easy recipe a try. You may never cook baked potatoes any other way!

Recipe ingredients: russet potatoes, olive oil, sea salt, black pepper, butter and chives.

How to make a baked potato in an air fryer

This air fryer baked recipe is super easy!

Start by preheating your air fryer to 400°F. Depending on the air fryer you have, you may not even need to preheat it. My Wonder Oven, for example, preheats in a snap.

Next, prepare the potatoes. I like to use russet potatoes here. These potatoes are high in starch, so they stay nice and fluffy on the inside as they bake. Their skin also gets especially crispy!

Scrub the potatoes thoroughly and pat dry. Then prick them a few times with a fork. Drizzle the potatoes with olive oil and rub the skin with your hands. Sprinkle generously with sea salt and place in the air fryer basket.

Cook the potatoes in the air fryer. until crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, about 40 to 50 minutes. You should be able to pierce them easily with a fork.

Cut off the top, fluff the inside, and serve with salt, pepper, and any toppings you like!

FAQs about air fryer baked potatoes

Do I need to pierce potatoes before air frying?

Yes! Piercing the potatoes with a fork or knife allows steam to escape as they cook. If you skip this step, the potatoes may burst in the air fryer.

Should I wrap potatoes in foil before air frying?

Of course not! Wrapping potatoes in foil before frying or baking them causes the skin to become moist. So ditch the foil and season your potatoes with olive oil and sea salt. They’ll be extra crispy!

How long should I cook baked potatoes in the air fryer?

The exact time will depend on the specific air fryer and the size of the potatoes. In my air fryer, a large baked potato typically takes about 45 minutes at 400 degrees.
