Disclosure: I have previously worked with Brother and Skitch. This blog post is not part of any paid promotion. I just wanted to share my honest opinion!
Digital machine embroidery has been on my to-do list for as long as I can remember. I love everything about machine embroidery, from pretty, graphic patches to delicate, subtle details. The idea of adding embroidered details to clothing and home items quickly and easily was very appealing to me, but taking the leap into purchasing an expensive embroidery machine and learning complicated processes was something I didn’t have the money or time to spare for. So I put it on the to-do list for another time and left it there. That was until the amazing Skitch came along.
To be honest, Brother sent me the Skitch to test out and share on my social media, but the first thing I noticed about this machine was the price. At £500 it’s a steal. Especially compared to the £2500+ embroidery machines I’d previously decided were out of my budget. At this price it’s much easier to justify, especially if you want to make and sell your own designs.
Skitch and Artspira
But it’s not just the impressive cost that got me excited about Skitch. I also loved how accessible it makes machine embroidery, even if you’ve never done it before. The Artspira app is linked to Skitch via Bluetooth and is simple and fun to use even for absolute beginners. Throughout the design process, we are guided with video tutorials. From setting up the fabric to threading the machine and bobbin, the process is broken down step by step, making this a foolproof experience.
There are so many free designs in the app to choose from that you can get started straight away! New designs are uploaded all the time and you can even add up to 10 of your own designs at a time for free. There is a subscription option for premium designs or to create your own in the app. It costs £9.99 per month.
The first thing I made was these matching jeans for me and my daughter, which are so cute! I have a full video tutorial of the process below. If you have any questions, leave me a comment on my Instagram post.
I ended up cutting my pair into shorts, which I’ve been wearing all summer. But with the chill of fall approaching, I’ll have to buy a new pair of jeans for the colder months. But I’ll be adding it to my overly long Skitch list because I already have too many ideas! Look forward to seeing more ideas, tutorials, and festive fun with Skitch here very soon. I’m obsessed!
